Optimization system for design of laser-welded steel-sandwich structures
![]() The purpose of the optimization system is to provide the optimal structural design of laser welded steel-sandwich structures. This system aids the designer in achieving more efficient and reliable design in less time. System utilizes a genetic algorithm for iteration of design solutions in obtaining an optimal solution. Furthermore, it does homogenization of the sandwich panel in order to decrease the number of FE elements and save the assessment time. A VB.NET application sequentially executes FORTRAN genetic algorithm, ANSYS structural evaluation in batch mode and MS interoperability functions to store data to MS EXCEL sheet while optimization process is ongoing. System is particularly useful for design of corrugated-core steel sandwich panel structures. Procedure is very efficient in achieving a minimum structural weight while satisfying yield and buckling criteria.
