The Economist

as2con's innovative business model for shipyards entered the Top 4 Innovative ideas on "The Economist-InnoCentive" Entrepreneurship Challenge. The main characteristic of the proposed model is reflected through the change in the business focus. Shipyards having a  new “service-oriented” focus would enable greater competitiveness and sustainability when compared to their existing focus. The final results will be announced at the upcoming "The Ideas Economy: Innovation" conference which will be held at The Hass School of Business, University of California at Berkeley, from 23-24 March 2011. Top finalists will defend their ideas  based on the Dragons´ Den reality TV show model for innovative business ideas.

Project preparation: EU – EMERGESTEEL (2004)

flood Riggered by the positive characteristics of laser-welded sandwich panels and faced with the recent flooding, earthquakes and storms throughout the Europe and World, a research project was conceived to design and produce several emergency responsive actions from sandwich panels. Having in mind that steel sandwich panels are light and modular structures and still strong enough one can think of several immediate applications that are of need during catastrophes. Hand assembled bridges, movable dikes or earthquake safe houses are some of the possibilities. AS2CON aided these efforts by producing a project proposal document.
